The Sensing Drill

A 90-minute live session on training the one skill underneath every hard conversation: the ability to read what is actually happening, in yourself and in the person in front of you, before you start making stories about it.

What this is

Sensing is a trainable skill, not a personality trait.

Most people treat it as something you either have or you don't. It isn't. It can be practised, and it can be measured, and the claim of this session is deliberately narrow: you can get measurably better at it inside 90 minutes, and you will score the improvement yourself.

There is an order to it that most people have backwards. You cannot read another person well until you can read yourself. Self-sensing comes first, not because it matters more, but because it is the input to everything else. Most of us were taught that empathy points outward. It starts inward.

The payoff is intuition: the quiet, fast read on a room or a person that good leaders seem to have and cannot quite explain. This is where it comes from, and it can be trained.

Who it's for

People who read other people for a living.

Founders, senior leaders, coaches and facilitators, educators, and anyone who reads people for a living. It works whether the method is new to you or familiar. Come with a real working relationship or decision in mind.

How the 90 minutes run

Ten minutes of framing, ten of evidence, sixty of practice.

  1. First 10 minutes What sensing is, and why the inner work comes first.
  2. Next 10 minutes What our research has found so far, stated with its limits, not dressed up.
  3. The core 60 minutes You practise in small groups, take the hot seat, and score yourself before and after on four dimensions of sensing. Your lowest score becomes your 90-day focus.
You'll leave with

Four things you can use on Monday.

The PME Sensing Quad worksheet: a physical, mental and emotional scan, then four questions scored one to five, with the lowest score becoming a ninety day focus
The PME Sensing Quad, the sheet you will score yourself on. Physical, mental and emotional on the scan, then four questions on how well you sensed and were sensed.
The evidence behind it

This work has been run with groups across several countries. At the Universidad de La Sabana delegation in Warsaw (June 2026), participants rated the sessions an average of 9.8 out of 10 to recommend, a Net Promoter Score of 94 from 33 responses. Related work powered the AI-augmented facilitation at the ASEAN Startup Connect Summit, funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund.

Earlier research on the method is still small and self-reported, and we say so plainly in the session, which is exactly why this one collects data too.

Places are limited so the breakout groups stay small.
